Another Tuesday (Game Jam 2024)

Another Tuesday is a 2D game jam game made in Unreal Engine 5 for the Global Game Jam Vancouver 2024, and was my first game jam. With the theme of a jam to "make people laugh", the idea was for it to be a simple action survival game where players attempt to survive multiple floors of enemies. In this project, I served two roles with the smaller one being that of the game designer that came up with the initial game concept. My main role that that of the artist who created the pixel arts graphics seen in the game and video mockup. I illustrated these 2D sprites using Aseprite.

To showcase some of these ideas, I created a mockup video in Adobe Premiere that includes some cut content such as different attacks and a missing enemy.

In total, I created 5 character sprites (1 player and 4 enemies), a foreground tile sheet, and a city background. This was done over a couple of days in the evening alongside other group tasks such as attending meeting calls and planning with my teammates. In order to be in-line with the game's comedic theme, I had the enemies in the game showcase a bunch of exaggerated proportions. The buff gym friends had huge arms, the cousins had large legs, and the kids had large heads. The game's boss, the Ex-Wife was made to look monstrous as to fit what most divorcees probably view their spouses as should it be a particularly nasty separation.
